This video is presented by Meghan Carter of www.AsktheDecorator.com. Flower arrangements add instant beauty to any room, but finding flower arrangements perfect for your home and at the right price isn't easy. To find the best way to arrange flowers, Meghan visited a local floral designer and discovered some great tips. The intent on the videos posted here is to bring an awareness of what goes on in a florist design room as it relates to creativity.
This video is presented by Blooms & Things Florist's own, Vicki McFall. Our designer is creating a fall themed standing spray for a funeral.
She is using Sunflowers, Hypericum, Solidago, Carnations, Orange Asiatic Lillies, Austromeria, and Wheat. The easel that she is using stands 52 inches in height but the flowers cover a much more extended radius.
More videos on flower arranging will be posted here in the future. For now, here is a step by step tutorial on how to make a floral basket arrangement:
1) First identify the type of basket you want to use.
2) Now take a plastic liner and place it in the basket itself (cellophane will work if you don't have a liner).
3) Then fill the basket with floral foam popularly known as Oasis.
4) Now take what’s called “floral bowl tape” (it is water proof and comes in different thicknesses) and secure the Oasis to the liner of the basket itself.
5) Then use what’s called Leather Leaf (Pit; Lemon Leaf; Bear Grass; etc...) greens to cover the mechanics mentioned above as well as start the beginning element of what’s called “the line” of the arrangement itself. Ruscus & Myrtle greens may be used at this time too.
6) From there, build on that line with “line flowers.” Line flowers are basically vertical type flowers like Snap Dragons, Liatris, Larkspure, and similar flowers.
7) As the line starts to develop, add what’s called the “vocal point” flowers. Typically vocal point flowers are the bigger radius flowers like, Gerbras, Sunflowers, and similar impressive bloom flowers.
8) The final step is adding in the flowers that make the flower arrangement a flower arrangement.
All flower basket arrangements encompass these basic principles. The last step is the one that defines the artistic side of the flower arrangement the most. From a wild flower look, to a high style Asian flower arrangement, these basic principles hold true for just about any flower arrangement.
